Eaten The Super Special #1 At Lucca Delicatessen

"I'm going to marry a Jewish woman because I like the idea of getting up Sunday morning and going to the deli."

Today, I went to Lucca Delicatessen to try the Super Special #1, which is #57 on the 7x7 Big Eat List. After our lunch time workout, I drove over to Chestnut, and with my friend Siyu’s help, I found a parking space. We walked over.

Lucca Delicatessen has been serving San Franciscans since 1929. When you walk in, it really feels like an old school deli. There’s just one narrow space when you walk in, but there’s a big glass case where all the meats and salads are.

We picked a number and waited. While we were waiting, I looked around and there were tons of cool foods you could buy in there. I was most impressed with the giant cheese wheels and the assortment of cheeses.

Of course, no longstanding San Francisco establishment would be complete without some sort of Giants decoration.

It took a little while to get called, but we ordered our sandwiches. The sandwich is an Italian Combo of ham, salami, and mortadella with provolone, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, and mild Italian peppers. I asked the gentlemen making the sandwich to choose my bread. He suggested a soft sour roll.

This was a very good deli sandwich. It was soft and moist, but the bread never got soggy. The three meats went together really well. The lettuce and tomatoes tasted extremely fresh, and the peppers gave it a nice accent. I would easily order this again. It’s a great option for a non-pretentious meal in the Marina.
P.S. Since I was there, I noticed a good looking cannoli, and I couldn’t resist. Yes, it was good.
