Eaten Pork Kidney

"Edible, adj.: Good to eat, and wholesome to digest, as a worm to a toad, a toad to a snake, a snake to a pig, a pig to a man, and a man to a worm."

Today, we went to a new hot pot restaurant in Millbrae called The Boiling Bay.

Usually with hot pot I would normally see thinly sliced meats and hot broth, and that's basically what we got this time as well.

The only exception was when I found pork kidney on the menu. I decided I would give it a shot. I was surprised when it came out, and it was wet, slimy, and cut up into cubes.

Some of the other things we got with the hot pot included mushrooms, fish balls, shrimp, noodles, and napa cabbage.

There were even quail eggs in there as well.

We ended up ordering two kinds of broth, one was seaweed flavored and the other was a spicy broth.

After cooking the pork kidney, it was time to eat it.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it tasted kind of like a dense tofu. My friend Ryan called it "meaty tofu". We ended up eating most of the plate we ordered, but we totally got overstuffed. I had never tried something like this before, but I didn't think it tasted offensive at all. I'm not sure I'd order it again because I could just have something that tastes more interesting instead, but I'm glad I tried it. It definitely tested my comfort zone, and I did okay.
