Eaten Lamb Stracotto At Delfina Restaurant
I made a reservation for Delfina about a month ago with the intention of eating the Pork Sugo, another item on the 7x7 Big Eat List. Unfortunately, they weren’t serving it tonight. When we asked our server about it, he said they rotate their dishes depending on the ingredients they can get at certain times. They didn’t have pork shoulder at the moment, so I had to choose something else from the menu. Next time, I’ll call and ask about the sugo when I make my reservation.
Delfina is an Italian restaurant in the Mission District. I had not eaten here before. It’s located on the bustling 18th Street block between Guerrero and Dolores. Also located on this block are Bi-Rite Market, Bi-Rite Creamery, and Tartine.
The interior of the restaurant was busy. There was barely any room between tables. They really pack people into the place to where the aisles the servers go back and forth are very narrow.
We noticed right away that their reservation system is on an iPad.
The kitchen was busy, and the chefs were hard at work.
I saw them pulling things out of this oven all night.
For appetizer, I ordered grilled calamari on a warm white bean salad. The texture was really good, and it had a very nice tangy taste to it. It wasn’t what I expected, but I enjoyed it.
J had Insalata di Campo (bitter greens, pancetta, walnuts, Parmigiano and balsamic vinaigrette).
A had Jewish-Style Artichokes with lemon and mint.
For the main course, J had California White Bass with Mariquita Farm carrots, Seville orange aioli and gremolata. I had a taste, and the carrots really stood out to me. They were cooked perfectly and flavorful.
A ordered the Berkshire Pork Saltimbocca with Anson Mills polenta.
My dish was the Lamb Stracotto with English peas and mint oil. It was very tasty and tender. The sauce was very flavorful (they pour it on at the table when they bring the plate out). I enjoyed this very much.
My overall experience at Delfina was a positive one. Although the prices are a bit high, the food was good and their attention to getting good quality ingredients is something I very much appreciate. The next time we come, we’re going to the pizzeria.
