Tasted a Chicharones Krispy Bar (189/366)

“It’s a pork fat thing!”

4505 Meats is our favorite place to get quality, pasture-raised meats in San Francisco, and we love frequenting their booth at the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market on Saturdays – usually to get a tasty burger or whatever their special for the day is – but the other day, they shared on their Facebook page that they were trying out a new treat – Chicharrones cereal bars.

4505 sells bags of Chicharrones – basically pork rinds, but in their own special 4505 way, they make these unlike any other pork rind you’ve ever had.  These are delicious, savory, a bit sweet, and they melt in your mouth.  They’re just heavenly.  Mix that goodness in with some Rice Krispies and marshmallows?  Oh man, we had to try these.

This morning, we visited the booth and scored some.  Awesome.

You can see the chicharrones pieces throughout the bar – so you know they don’t skimp on putting them in there!

I tasted my bar.  Holy moly.  They’ve done it again.  I already think Rice Krispy treats are one of the most awesome things ever – the crispy cereal, the sweet marshmallow, and the buttery goodness of the homemade ones is just so good – but when you add 4505 chicharrones to the mix, the deliciousness gets taken up a few notches.  I love the savory flavor the chicharrones add to the bar, and the fattiness they also bring gives the whole thing another level of flavor and richness.

If you find yourself at the 4505 booth, pick up one of these treats.  At $3 each, they’re a bit pricey, but they’re excellent.  I might have to just make them at home myself …
