Made a Dessert Pizza (199/366)

“Dessert is probably the most important stage of the meal, since it will be the last thing your guests remember before they pass out all over the table.”

Yay for Tuesday Night Dinner!

The girls haven’t been able to come over for awhile, so this is a special dinner. A little while ago when I tried baking with Thomas Keller’s C4C gluten-free flour, we made pizza dough, and I decided to make an extra couple of batches so we could have pizza night with the girls. Tonight, we had a fun time and made several pizzas, and I got to make a dessert pizza for the very first time.

I’ve seen a lot of dessert pizzas that are drenched in gross, way too sweet ingredients: chocolate sauce, marshmallow fluff, more chocolate sauce and marshmallows on top, chocolate chips … and the list goes on … I also saw recipes for dessert pizzas that used s giant cookie as the crust! While I’m sure a lot of people like those recipes, I wanted to see if we could make a pizza that would not be as sweet, maybe have a bit of savory character to them, and I definitely wanted to use a regular pizza dough instead of having to make a special one just for dessert.

I started out with a normal pizza round, and sprinkled mozzarella cheese over it as a base.  I wanted to use some nice fruit we had, so I thought blue cheese and pear would be a good combination.  On went the blue cheese, and then the thinly sliced pear.  Yum.

We also had some great apples, and nice cheddar – so I thought I’d put those on the other side of the pizza.

We popped it in the oven, and when it came out, Nick even drizzled on some of the homemade foie salted caramel he had made when he made me “Foie Five Ways” – SO awesome.

We had enough dough for a second pizza, so we decided to make this one a sweeter version – with Nutella, strawberries, and more pears.  Beautiful!

This was such an awesome INDT.  We love pizza, we love our friends, we love our Tuesday Night Dinners, and we had such a great time creating all these great treats tonight.  I really enjoyed making these dessert pizzas with the combinations of savory and sweet (but not too sweet).  Delicious!
