Eaten an Ike’s Sandwich (125/366)

Ryan’s up visiting and he’s said before that if he lived in the City he’d get fat because there’s so much great food here. Well, Nick and I on our quest to fatten him up decided we should go to Ike’s Place and finally have one of their famous sandwiches. Nick had been meaning to go here for a sandwich last year, but never got around to it. We decided that if we were going to have Ike’s sandwiches, we should probably walk down there from the house to at least offset *some* of the calories. Ha!

Ike’s has a huge menu – so huge that it’s not even all on display at the shop itself – you can go online and check out their “full” menu on their website – but the deliciousness doesn’t stop there – they’ll make you whatever insane combination you can come up with.

They have a lot of different kinds of chips at Ike’s too – and they’re just as unique as their sandwiches. Ryan got jalapeño chips with his “Paul Reubens” – Pastrami, Home Made Poppy Seed Coleslaw, French Dressing, and Swiss Cheese – a gorgeous sandwich!

Nick got the “Lex Luthor” – this sandwich is so big it’s served as TWO. The menu description reads: “Chicken Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, Rib Eye Steak, French Dressing, Mozzarella Sticks, American Cheese” … this sandwich is insane!

As for me, since the Giants were playing today, I decided to go with the “SF Giants” – Turkey, Bacon, Mushrooms, Avocado, and Swiss, and to go with that I chose the “Cajun Dill Gator-Tator” fries:

All of our sandwiches were delicious.  The staff at Ike’s is totally friendly and helpful, and while the sandwiches aren’t cheap (the Lex Luthor will run you about $20!), they’re definitely worth the price – they’re huge sandwiches, packed with high quality ingredients, and I do mean PACKED.  The only downside to an Ike’s sandwich in my opinion is that since they are so packed, they can be a bit messy.

If you love sandwiches (who doesn’t?!), and don’t mind getting a bit messy, or waiting in line (Ike’s usually has a line out the door, but it moves relatively fast, and at some times during the day you can luck out and not have any line), I’d totally recommend stopping by Ike’s for some fantastic, sloppy goodness.
