Been to the Bahamas (249/366)

249BahamasTop“Instead of studying for finals, what about just going to the Bahamas and catching some rays?  Maybe you’ll flunk, but you might have flunked anyway; that’s my point.”
Jack Handey

Whew, here we are!  Wondering where we were flying on JetBlue to?  Well, not actually the Bahamas, but the rest of that story will come later.  The important thing is that today, I am setting foot for the first time, on a Bahamian Island.  Grand Bahama Island, to be precise.  Cool!

We hopped on our tour bus for the bit of a jog from Freeport Harbor to the Grand Lucayan, where we’re staying.  A nice way to see the island without having to drive, but since tourism is the mainstay of Grand Bahama Island (it was relatively quiet until the 1950’s), there isn’t much to see between Freeport and Lucaya.

It was kind overcast.  There were a lot of trees.

This totally reminded me of the scene from Back to the Future where Marty’s neighborhood hadn’t been built yet.

Local [Catholic] high school.

Oh yeah, the KFC!  The Spicy Citrus flavor sounds really good!

Ah, here we are – touristy stuff – shops!  Ha ha – and a Subway.

… and “The Unusual Center”.

Port Lucaya Marketplace, just across the way from the Grand Lucayan.  The sun’s coming out!

We’re here!  And by the pool … Big Chess!  Love it!  Ha ha ha.  And yay, the sun is OUT!!!

The view from our room.  Gorgeous!

And here’s the lobby of the Grand Lucayan.  Lovely!

Well, we’re here for a few nights.  It is beautiful, and HOT.  But we made it!  Whew.  My first time in the Bahamas.  Fun!
